Assignment 2 Reflection
I am the script writer and video editor for this video production project. The video production project was a great learning experience for me. I had the opportunity to work with some group-mates that we barely know each other before, it is a fresh new experience to cope with people with different background.
The idea of writing a script about a student chasing the ‘exam paper’ in his subconscious was influenced by films like ‘inceptions’, ‘stranger things’, which is my favorite genre. As the theme of this assignment is chasing, I think it is interesting to see the main character chasing around the ‘subconscious’. I have worked with my group-mates to share our ideas on script and exchange the comments and revised accordingly.
The video production project was a great learning experience for me and I am confident that my interpersonal skills improved. When working with other members in the group, I think we were not able to communicate effectively, especially missing the chance to solve problems together when we encountered them. This is a major challenge for me because I do feel like we can make better options for some production decisions, but because we separated our role, I just raised my opinion and let the director to make a final judgement. I do believe that everyone should get a chance to do what they wanted within their own assigned role, it is important to take a step back and respect each individual production role.
The editing process was probably my favorite part because it allowed me to work with different possibilities of the footage and retold the story through editing. It’s a great experience as I write the original ideas in the script first, and then change it according to the shot footages at the end, re arranging clips into one cohesive story line that made sense visually.
Overall, I think the outcome was just satisfactory because I expected a lot more production value of the final outcome, as well as and the team should work more cohesively for a better communication. So all group mates could enjoyed working together as a team and felt like they had contributed something meaningful towards creating an final product.
