Movie of me
“Movie of me”
Reflection of “Movie of me”
Understanding the aim of this task is to depict our personality and introduce who we are to the class, we conceptualised a fast-pacing short clips that purely use image and editing to show our thoughts, and the way we sees this academy individually. It is indeed a challenge for ourselves by adapting a ‘show don’t tell’ mentality.
During the brainstorming and researching process, our group reached the common ground of referencing our character introduction scene from the opening sequence of “Friends”. There is a ‘jump cutting’ effects that we found resonated, I therefore explained the concept and techniques behind it and we all agreed to give it a shot. Throughout the discussion, I tried to lead in the conversation and assisted the group mates who are rather new in filmmaking. I tried to offer help to visualised their ideas and thinking into practice. In fact this is quite a unique experience for me to work with someone with completely different background and skillset.
It was also a hands-on experience for us to surmount the limits. Without any technique supports, we could only make use of our handy tools, ie. smart phones, hand-held shots, practical ambient light etc, shooting only in the location of the APA buildings. Make the most of our handy equipments, embellished with endless creativeness, we came up with serval riveting and originated shots. For example, we end the shot with a glass widows shot in APA, telling the ideas that we are equipping ourselves in the academy for the future out there that are waiting for us.
While I was editing the video, as we are dividing the video into three sections, capturing the true essence of each creator is the primary mission of the editor in this project. But on the other hand, It is also important for me to strike the balance between individual segments and the synchronisation of the overall tone and quality. As the shots are usually individual frequent, it is important to re-told the story through the editing table.
Overall, “movie of me” is certainly a great experience to kick start the academic year.
